The Top District of Columbia Lawyers

New York’s top lawyers tend to be in the fields of business and commerce, but this is not true of the top rated lawyers in Washington DC. Top rated lawyers in the District of Columbia tend to be in the field of family law. There are of course top Washington DC. Lawyers who specialize in tax law and other fields, but the ones who really are high-profile DC attorneys are those who have made their reputations and names in family law.

Reid H. Weingarten, of the firm Steptoe and Johnson, is a name to be conjured with in Washington, although not in the realms of family law. It was he that Mark Belnick (a New York lawyer) turned to when he was charged with corporate fraud, and Weingarten secured his acquittal. Unlike other top rated Washington lawyers, Weingarten specializes in Commercial defense cases and White Collar defense. In 2009 he was appointed to the film director Roman Polanski’s legal team. He has also acted for the government of Kazakhstan, and was one of the lawyers who were part of the Whitewater Investigation.

Then there was the BCCI investigation and other high-profile cases. He is also Special Counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and to the Sub-committee on near East and South Asian Affairs. He also is chairman and co-founder (with Eric Holder) of the non-profit program See Forever Foundation which exists to assist juvenile offenders in rehab and prevent them from returning to a life of crime.
